Meet PinBox
PinBox is a 120 format 6x6 film camera built around a simple prototyping platform. We designed PinBox with the DIY community in mind. Our goal is to provide a great pinhole camera that teaches the fundamentals of pinhole camera design and teaches you how to make your own cameras by making ours!
PinBox uses 120 format analog film and takes a 6 cm by 6 cm square image, capturing 12 images per roll of film with a 30mm focal length and an aperture of f/120 or f/200, user choice.
Pricing: PinBox retail pricing is $30 USD each.

Meet NuBox 1
Introducing NuBox 1 : A Modern Modular Box Camera from Hamm Camera Company
NuBox 1 is available in black, three colors in the Weathered Series and a specially finished Vintage Model .
The NuBox 1 shown above is finished in Worn Blue.

NuBox 1 is the first interchangeable lens box camera ever made. And that was just the beginning. We continued to strive and revitalize the entire design. We looked at the cartridge dimensions, considered the arrangement of the lens, the aperture, and the shutter, and in doing so we created a completely modern design, both technically and aesthetically. Our crowning achievement was to over-engineer the lens and the aperture to avoid one of the most common deficiencies of a traditional box camera - lens vignetting. The NuBox 1 not only improves upon the original design, it exceeds the specifications in every way. That’s why we say “The Box Is Back!".

More than forty variations of the body and cartridge have resulted in the design of the NuBox 1. The 1/200th second shutter is made using a single position, single throw lever and a custom made rotary shutter. Standard aperture values range from f/16 to f/32 providing a focal distance range of approximately 6 feet to infinity. The Portrait apertures of f/8 and f/11 render beautiful bokeh and out of focus areas. This is accomplished by engineering the apertures with a near focus limit of approximately 7 feet and a far focus limit of roughly 10 feet. The hyper-focal zone begins at 37 feet and continues to infinity. This range of focus empowers the savvy photographer to compose interesting shallow depth of field portraits while maintaining sharp subject focus. Ground glass and polished mirrors have been chosen for the viewfinders. Innovation will continue and the design will be refined as new models are introduced with exciting new features and finishes.

The Company
Dedicated To Film Photography.
Hamm Camera Company had an auspicious beginning at Grandmother's house one day in Spring of 2016. Hamm Camera Company's founder, Robert Hamm, was visiting and saw an nondescript black box sitting on a bookcase shelf. Robert was struck with excitement and inspiration. He saw an opportunity to revolutionize film photography with the simplicity of the humble box camera. Months of prototyping later, Hamm Camera Company has developed a completely new innovation from the original inspiration with our vanguard camera, the NuBox 1 box camera.

The Team
Our founder, Robert Hamm, didn’t start out hoping to modernize the box camera. A wedding photographer by profession, Robert has photographed hundreds of brides and thousands of families over the past seven years. His work has been featured in local Virginia Beach businesses, and he’s won multiple “Best of” awards. Expanding his interest in photography to the mechanics of cameras, in 2015 he started repairing old cameras and lenses. He didn’t know it at the time, but this endeavor would lay the groundwork for Hamm Camera Company and the NuBox 1 box camera.
"The idea isn't to just bring back the box camera, rather, the idea is to make a new and better box camera for a new generation of photographers, both amateur and professional, to discover. "

Help "Bring Back The Box!"
Why Kickstarter?
This Kickstarter is to raise money for a full production line to be set up and running in Virginia Beach, Virginia. We want to keep production of the NuBox 1 organic to Hamm Camera Company. Therefore, we will be making all parts of the camera except for the optical hardware, which we will procure from a great sourcing and supply chain partner. This means that as orders are placed, optics will be received, and the NuBox 1 will be produced, assembled, and finished- all by hand, all for you.
What's After Kickstarter?
Kickstarter was a great success for NuBox 1. We launched a great camera and have purchased our production line machines and are in the process of creating cameras for our backers. But there is more to come. Since Funding Hamm Camera Company has released several accessories for NuBox 1. Included among the accessories is the Wide Angle Lens Cartridge and the Camera Strap Adapter. More updates are on the way, but accessories and lenses isn't the only area where Hamm Camera Company is continuing. We are also in development of our next camera, NuBox 35, a 35mm variant of NuBox 1, and we are currently seeking distribution partners. There's a lot to do, a lot to be proud of, and a lot of excitement about NuBox!
The Process
Our camera is durable. We wanted to design a camera that will be functioning twenty years down the road. This got us thinking about materials which almost never deteriorate and led us to plastic. We thought about how the cameras would be used, the different environments the machine would operate, what kind of user maintenance would be required; and determined that we needed three different processes and two different kinds of plastics to be successful. Working with plastic allows all of the production to stay in house. It means that a small group of people can produce and maintain consistent production for hundreds of cameras at a single time. Hamm Camera Company discovered that by keeping all design, production, finishing and shipping operations organic, we would be able to reach a high order volume while keeping the price down. Without 3D printing, our entry price of $79.99 USD, nor our ability to produce the cameras at that price, would be possible.
The Future
As the design process began to wrap up, we realized that Hamm Camera Company had a different mission than just creating a great box camera. We realized that we were pioneering a new industry of camera production, the maker movement. It became apparent that we have a very important role to play in the film revival, and that is one which bridges the distance between makers and users. We have gained the experience and knowledge of how to make a completely 3d printed camera, and we want to foster that presence through forums, workshops, and design contests. Hamm Camera Company isn’t just "bringing back the box", although we did, we are also creating reference hardware for a new generation of photographer. We believe that the next big thing in photography is the do-it-yourself movement, that people will make the camera they want by designing it. Hamm Camera Company will be at the forefront of this movement.
